The market

How US brands buy bed linen

Sets are led by the flat sheet

A US sheet set is a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and pillowcases, and the flat sheet is expected rather than optional. We weave up to 136 inches wide, so Queen and King flat sheets are cut from one width with no seam across the bed.

Deep pockets are the default

US mattresses run tall, and pillow tops deeper still. Our 15 inch pocket fits mattresses up to about 14 inches deep, with a full elastic perimeter so the sheet holds at every edge.

Comforter or duvet cover

Many US ranges sell a filled comforter as the top layer, others a duvet cover over an insert. We make both, along with coverlets and quilts, so confirm which your customers expect before the range is costed.

Throws at US sizes

Our knitted throws are made at 50 x 60 and 60 x 80 inches as standard, the sizes US retail sells. Woven throws are made to the size you specify.

Shipping

Getting goods to the United States

DestinationPortsTransit from Nhava Sheva
US East CoastNew York/New Jersey, Savannah, Charleston, NorfolkAbout 25 to 35 days
US GulfHoustonAbout 30 to 40 days
US West CoastLos Angeles/Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle/TacomaAbout 30 to 40 days

Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva, before customs clearance. Most sailings tranship through a hub, and routing around the Red Sea can lengthen the East Coast leg, so your forwarder confirms the schedule on the service they book.

Importer Security Filing

The ISF, or 10+2, goes to US Customs and Border Protection at least 24 hours before the container is loaded at Nhava Sheva, so your broker needs the shipment details early.

Customs bond and broker

A single entry bond covers one shipment and a continuous bond a year of them. A licensed broker files the entry and classifies the goods.

Documents from us

Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.

Duty

Trade terms

There is no free trade agreement between India and the US, so normal US duty applies to bed linen and table linen, which fall under chapter 63 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. On top of that, the additional tariff on Indian goods has changed several times since 2025, including under an interim trade framework announced in February 2026. Confirm the current rate on your product's HTS line with your customs broker before you price a range.

Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (USITC).

Labelling

What the label must carry

  • Fibre content, by percentage, under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act.
  • Country of origin, marked Made in India.
  • The identity of the manufacturer or importer, usually a registered RN number.
  • For filled products such as quilts, comforters, pillows and filled shams, a state law label: the filling by generic name, form and percentage, ALL NEW MATERIAL, and the registry number of the maker or importer.
  • Care instructions are not required by federal law for bedding, but most US retailers ask for them.

Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: FTC textile labelling guidance.

Market rules

Rules worth knowing

What a buyer selling into the United States is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.

State law labels on filled products

Quilts, comforters, pillows, filled shams and weighted blankets need a white law label in the states that regulate filled bedding: the filling by generic name, form and percentage, ALL NEW MATERIAL, and a state registry number. Sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases do not.

Our guide to US law labels

California Proposition 65

Goods sold in California need a clear warning if they expose consumers to a listed chemical above its safe harbour level, so most retailers set chemical limits in their supplier terms rather than print warnings.

California Proposition 65 warnings

No federal care label for bedding

The FTC care labelling rule covers clothing, not bedding, so a care label on sheets or a duvet cover is a retailer requirement rather than a legal one. Fibre content, origin and RN still are legal requirements.

Questions

Common questions from US brands

Do you make sheets in US sizes?

Yes. Our US schedule runs Twin, Full, Queen and King in inches, with a 15 inch pocket on fitted sheets. Twin XL, California King and Split King are made on request, and we confirm every size against your own measurements before sampling.

Can you ship to both US coasts?

Yes. We ship FOB Nhava Sheva, so your forwarder books the sailing to the East Coast, the Gulf or the West Coast. If you would rather we carry the ocean leg on a first order, CIF and CFR are available on request.

What do we need to arrange before a US shipment sails?

A customs broker, a bond and the Importer Security Filing, which is due at least 24 hours before the container is loaded in India. We send the shipment details your broker needs in time for that cut-off.

Who is responsible for US labelling?

The importer is, under US law, but we build it into production. Send the fibre content, RN number, country of origin and care wording you want, and it is sewn in to your specification rather than fixed after arrival.

Do quilts and comforters need a law label?

Yes, in the states that regulate filled bedding. A quilt, comforter, pillow or filled sham carries a white law label stating the filling by generic name, form and percentage, ALL NEW MATERIAL, and your registry number. Sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases have no filling and do not need one.
