The market
How Swiss brands buy bed linen
A size of its own
The Swiss single duvet is 160 x 210 cm, wider than the German and longer than most, so Swiss covers are their own cut rather than a German size.
The Pfulmen pillow
Alongside the 50 x 70 cm case, Switzerland sells the long 65 x 100 cm pillow, which takes its own large case.
Two duvets on a double
Many Swiss couples use two 160 x 210 cm duvets on one bed, so a double order is often a pair of single covers.
Three label languages
Switzerland sells in German, French and Italian, so labels and packaging are usually printed in all three.
Shipping
Getting goods to Switzerland
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| Northern Switzerland | Basel, by Rhine barge or rail from Rotterdam or Antwerp | About 28 to 40 days in total |
Switzerland has no seaport. Containers land at Rotterdam or Antwerp and travel on by Rhine barge or rail, clearing Swiss customs on arrival.
Swiss customs, not EU
Switzerland is outside the EU customs union, so goods travel through the EU in transit and clear in Switzerland, where import VAT is charged.
Inland leg
Your forwarder books the barge or rail leg from the North Sea port, which adds about 5 to 7 days to the sea voyage.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and origin documentation, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
Switzerland abolished customs duties on industrial goods, textiles included, on 1 January 2024, whatever their origin. The India-EFTA agreement, in force since October 2025, also covers Switzerland. Import VAT still applies.
Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: SECO: abolition of industrial tariffs.
Labelling
What the label must carry
- Fibre composition, not legally required in Switzerland but expected by Swiss retailers.
- Labels and packaging usually in German, French and Italian.
- Care symbols, expected by Swiss retailers.
Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification.
Market rules
Rules worth knowing
What a buyer selling into Switzerland is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.
No duty on textiles
Since 1 January 2024 Switzerland charges no customs duty on industrial goods, including textiles, regardless of where they are made. Only import VAT is due.
SECO: industrial tariffsNo fibre labelling law
Unlike the EU, Switzerland has no law requiring fibre composition on textiles, but Swiss retailers expect it, so it is labelled as standard.
Transit through the EU
Goods for Switzerland cross the EU under transit and clear only at the Swiss border, so they are not entered for EU duty on the way.

Questions
Common questions from Swiss brands
Is there duty on Indian bed linen in Switzerland?
No. Switzerland abolished industrial tariffs, textiles included, from 1 January 2024. Import VAT is still charged. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
Why is the Swiss duvet 160 x 210 cm?
It is Switzerland's own standard, wider and longer than the German single. We cut covers to it rather than adapting a German size.
Do Swiss labels need three languages?
Not by a fibre labelling law, which Switzerland does not have, but retailers selling nationally print German, French and Italian.
How do goods reach Switzerland?
By sea to Rotterdam or Antwerp, then by Rhine barge or rail to Basel, clearing Swiss customs on arrival.
