The market
How Norwegian brands buy bed linen
140 x 220 is the recommended size
Standard Norge recommends the 140 x 220 cm duvet for new purchases, and the shorter 140 x 200 cm is still sold. Most Norwegian ranges carry both.
The long pillow
The most common Norwegian pillow takes a 50 x 70 cm case, a different cut from the Swedish 50 x 60 cm and the Danish 60 x 63 cm.
Outside the EU
Norway is not in the EU customs union, so goods cleared in Rotterdam are not cleared for Norway. A Norwegian shipment is its own entry.
Two duvets on a double
As across Scandinavia, couples often use two single duvets, so confirm whether a double order is one 200 x 220 cm cover or a pair.
Shipping
Getting goods to Norway
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern Norway | Oslo | About 30 to 40 days |
| Western Norway | Bergen | About 30 to 40 days |
Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva, transhipped at a North Sea hub onto a feeder service, before Norwegian customs clearance.
A Norwegian customs entry
Goods enter through Norwegian Customs, separately from the EU. A broker files the declaration, and import VAT is charged on entry.
Proof of origin for TEPA
The India-EFTA agreement needs valid proof that the goods originate in India, which we provide with the export documents. See trade terms below for the duty position.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and origin documentation, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, in force since 1 October 2025, commits Norway to eliminate all import duties on Indian non-agricultural goods, textiles such as bed linen and table linen included, from entry into force, for goods with valid proof of origin. Import VAT still applies.

Labelling
What the label must carry
- Fibre composition in Norwegian, under rules that follow the EU textile regulation through the EEA.
- Care symbols, not legally required but expected by Norwegian retailers.
- Country of origin, often requested by buyers and needed for the duty free claim.
Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: Your Europe: textile labelling.
Market rules
Rules worth knowing
What a buyer selling into Norway is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.
REACH applies through the EEA
Norway applies the EU chemicals regulation through the EEA agreement, including the limit on azo dyes in textiles in contact with skin. We dye with AZO-free dyes.
TEPA proof of origin
Duty free entry under the India-EFTA agreement depends on the goods meeting its rules of origin and carrying proof of origin, which we provide with the export documents.
Norway in India: TEPAOutside the EU customs union
Goods cleared in an EU port are not cleared for Norway, so a Norwegian shipment always needs its own entry with Norwegian Customs.

Questions
Common questions from Norwegian brands
Is bed linen from India duty free in Norway?
Yes, under the India-EFTA agreement in force since October 2025, when the shipment carries valid proof of Indian origin. Import VAT still applies. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
Can goods cleared in the EU go straight to Norway?
No. Norway is outside the EU customs union, so a Norwegian shipment needs its own customs entry, even if it transhipped through an EU port.
140 x 200 or 140 x 220?
140 x 220 cm is the size Standard Norge recommends for new purchases, and 140 x 200 cm still sells. We make both.
What size is a Norwegian pillowcase?
Most commonly 50 x 70 cm, for the long Norwegian pillow. We make other sizes on request.
