The market
How Dutch brands buy bed linen
One wide cover
Dutch beds are often two single mattresses pushed together, dressed with one wide duvet rather than two singles, so 240 x 220 cm is the standard double cover.
Made long
Dutch sleepers are on average tall, so 220 cm cover lengths and extra long mattresses are common. Plan the long sizes into the run from the start.
A rectangular pillowcase
The Dutch pillowcase is 60 x 70 cm, matching neither the German square nor the Scandinavian case, so it is its own cut.
No top sheet
A Dutch set is a fitted sheet, a duvet cover and pillowcases. Flat sheets are made only where you ask for them.
Shipping
Getting goods to the Netherlands
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| Rotterdam | Port of Rotterdam | About 22 to 32 days |
| Amsterdam | Via Rotterdam, or Amsterdam on some services | A few days after Rotterdam |
Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva via the Suez Canal, before customs clearance. Goods cleared at Rotterdam are in free circulation across the EU, which is why many brands route all their EU volume through it.
EORI number
Importing into the EU needs an EU EORI number, registered in the member state where you first import, and a broker files the declaration against the EU tariff.
Textile EPR
Bed, table and household linen placed on the Dutch market falls under the Netherlands' extended producer responsibility for textiles, so the importer or brand registers and reports for it, through a Dutch representative if based abroad.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
The India-EU free trade agreement was concluded in January 2026 but is not yet in force, so normal EU duty applies to bed linen and table linen imported into the Netherlands today, under chapter 63 of the EU's Common Customs Tariff. Once the agreement is in force, Indian textiles are set to enter the EU without duty. Confirm the rate on your product's code in TARIC before you price a range.
Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: European Commission: EU-India trade, EU TARIC tariff database.
Labelling
What the label must carry
- Fibre composition in Dutch, under the EU textile labelling regulation.
- Care symbols, not legally required but expected by Dutch retailers.
- Your registration under Dutch textile EPR, which covers household linen.
Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: Your Europe: textile labelling, ILT: EPR for textiles.
Market rules
Rules worth knowing
What a buyer selling into the Netherlands is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.
General Product Safety Regulation
Since 13 December 2024, a consumer product sold in the EU must carry the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic address, and a product made outside the EU needs an economic operator established in the EU who is responsible for it. Usually that is the importing brand, named on the label or packaging.
EUR-Lex: Regulation (EU) 2023/988Azo dyes under REACH
REACH restricts azo colourants that can release listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles in prolonged contact with skin, which includes bed linen and towels. We dye with AZO-free dyes.
ECHA: substances restricted under REACHDutch textile EPR
Since 1 July 2023 the Netherlands has run extended producer responsibility for textiles covering bed, table and household linen, with rising reuse and recycling targets. Producers based abroad appoint a Dutch authorised representative.

Questions
Common questions from Dutch brands
Why are Dutch duvet covers 220 cm long?
Dutch sleepers are on average tall, so a 220 cm length gives enough cover. We make both 200 and 220 cm lengths, and extra long fitted sheets on request.
Does Dutch textile EPR cover bed linen?
Yes. It covers household textiles including bed, table and household linen placed on the Dutch market. The importer or brand registers; we supply the product data you need for reporting.
Can goods cleared in Rotterdam go on to other EU countries?
Yes. Once cleared at Rotterdam the goods are in free circulation across the EU, with no further customs at internal borders.
Is there duty on Indian bed linen in the Netherlands?
For now, normal EU duty applies, until the India-EU agreement enters into force. Check the current rate in TARIC before you price. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
