The market
How Japanese brands buy bed linen
Narrower beds
A Japanese single is 100 cm wide and a semi-double 120 cm, a size Western ranges do not carry, so Japanese bedding is its own size run.
Futons as well as beds
Many households sleep on futons, so covers for kakebuton and shikibuton are made to the futon's dimensions alongside bed linen.
Exacting quality
Japanese buyers inspect closely for finish, shrinkage and consistency, so counter samples are agreed in detail before bulk.
Shipping
Getting goods to Japan
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo Bay | Tokyo, Yokohama | About 16 to 26 days |
| Kansai | Osaka, Kobe | About 16 to 26 days |
Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva via the Strait of Malacca, usually transhipped at Singapore or Colombo, before customs clearance.
CEPA certificate of origin
The India-Japan CEPA needs a certificate of origin showing the goods meet its rules of origin, which we arrange. See trade terms below for the duty position.
Customs and consumption tax
Goods clear Japanese customs through your broker, and consumption tax applies on import.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and CEPA certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
The India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has been in force since 1 August 2011. Japan's tariff schedule lists bed linen and table linen from India as free of duty, linen and cotton alike, for goods meeting the agreement's rules of origin with a valid certificate. Consumption tax still applies on import.

Labelling
What the label must carry
