The market
How Italian brands buy bed linen
The top sheet stays
Italy still makes up beds with a lenzuolo sopra, a top sheet, over the fitted sheet, so an Italian parure is a fitted sheet, a top sheet and pillowcases, often sold alongside a duvet cover.
A wide double cover
The Italian double duvet cover is about 250 x 200 cm, with 240 x 220 cm increasingly common. Both are made seamless on our wide looms.
A long pillowcase
The standard Italian pillowcase is 50 x 80 cm, longer than the UK and French cases, so it is its own cut.
Shipping
Getting goods to Italy
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| Liguria | Genoa, La Spezia | About 16 to 26 days |
| Southern Italy | Gioia Tauro, Salerno | About 16 to 26 days |
Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva via the Suez Canal, before customs clearance. Mediterranean ports land earlier than the North Sea; Red Sea disruption can add 7 days or more.
EORI number
Importing into the EU needs an EU EORI number, registered in the member state where you first import, and a broker files the declaration against the EU tariff.
Packaging labels in Italian
Since 2023, packaging placed on the Italian market carries an environmental label: a material code for each component and, on consumer packaging, disposal instructions in Italian.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
The India-EU free trade agreement was concluded in January 2026 but is not yet in force, so normal EU duty applies to bed linen and table linen imported into Italy today, under chapter 63 of the EU's Common Customs Tariff. Once the agreement is in force, Indian textiles are set to enter the EU without duty. Confirm the rate on your product's code in TARIC before you price a range.
Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: European Commission: EU-India trade, EU TARIC tariff database.
Labelling
What the label must carry
- Fibre composition in Italian, under the EU textile labelling regulation.
- Environmental labelling on packaging, with material codes and disposal instructions in Italian.
- Care symbols, not legally required but expected by Italian retailers.
Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: Your Europe: textile labelling, CONAI: environmental labelling.
Market rules
Rules worth knowing
What a buyer selling into Italy is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.
General Product Safety Regulation
Since 13 December 2024, a consumer product sold in the EU must carry the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic address, and a product made outside the EU needs an economic operator established in the EU who is responsible for it. Usually that is the importing brand, named on the label or packaging.
EUR-Lex: Regulation (EU) 2023/988Azo dyes under REACH
REACH restricts azo colourants that can release listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles in prolonged contact with skin, which includes bed linen and towels. We dye with AZO-free dyes.
ECHA: substances restricted under REACHEnvironmental packaging labels
Italy's Legislative Decree 116/2020 has required, since 1 January 2023, that all packaging carry a material identification code and that consumer packaging explain disposal in Italian. Packaging is designed to it before production.

Questions
Common questions from Italian brands
Do Italian bedding sets include a top sheet?
Usually, yes. An Italian parure is a fitted sheet, a top sheet and pillowcases. We make the top sheet to 250 x 290 cm for a double, or to your size.
What size is an Italian pillowcase?
50 x 80 cm, longer than in most of Europe. We cut it as its own size.
What must Italian packaging show?
A material code for each packaging component and, on consumer packaging, disposal instructions in Italian. Send the artwork with your specification.
Is there duty on Indian bed linen in Italy?
For now, normal EU duty applies, until the India-EU agreement enters into force. Check the current rate in TARIC before you price. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
