For Irish brands
Home textiles made for the Irish market

The market
How Irish brands buy bed linen
UK sizes, EU rules
Irish beds and bedding follow UK sizes, but since Brexit Ireland is in the EU customs union and the UK is not, so the paperwork is EU paperwork.
Duvet cover led
As in the UK, an Irish set is a fitted sheet, a duvet cover and housewife or Oxford pillowcases.
Shipping around Britain
Goods travelling through Great Britain to Ireland cross a customs border twice, so most Irish volume now comes direct from a continental hub rather than via the UK landbridge.
Shipping
Getting goods to Ireland
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| East coast | Dublin | About 28 to 38 days |
| South | Cork | About 28 to 38 days |
Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva, transhipped at Rotterdam, Antwerp or another North Sea hub onto a feeder to Ireland, before customs clearance.
EORI number
Importing into the EU needs an EU EORI number, registered in the member state where you first import, and a broker files the declaration against the EU tariff.
Not via the UK
A container routed through a British port enters and leaves UK customs. Shipping to Ireland on an EU feeder avoids that second border.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
The India-EU free trade agreement was concluded in January 2026 but is not yet in force, so normal EU duty applies to bed linen and table linen imported into Ireland today, under chapter 63 of the EU's Common Customs Tariff. Once the agreement is in force, Indian textiles are set to enter the EU without duty. Confirm the rate on your product's code in TARIC before you price a range.
Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: European Commission: EU-India trade, EU TARIC tariff database.
Labelling
What the label must carry
- Fibre composition in English, under the EU textile labelling regulation.
- Care symbols, not legally required but expected by Irish retailers.
- Country of origin, not required by EU law but often requested by buyers.
Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: Your Europe: textile labelling.
Market rules
Rules worth knowing
What a buyer selling into Ireland is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.
General Product Safety Regulation
Since 13 December 2024, a consumer product sold in the EU must carry the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic address, and a product made outside the EU needs an economic operator established in the EU who is responsible for it. Usually that is the importing brand, named on the label or packaging.
EUR-Lex: Regulation (EU) 2023/988Azo dyes under REACH
REACH restricts azo colourants that can release listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles in prolonged contact with skin, which includes bed linen and towels. We dye with AZO-free dyes.
ECHA: substances restricted under REACHTwo customs regimes next door
Ireland follows EU customs and product rules while Northern Ireland and Great Britain sit in the UK system. A range sold on both islands is planned for both sets of rules.

Questions
Common questions from Irish brands
Are Irish bedding sizes the same as the UK?
Yes. Ireland buys Single, Double, King and Super King to UK sizes, with UK style pillowcases.
Is Ireland covered by the UK-India trade agreement?
No. Ireland is in the EU, so EU duty and rules apply. The UK agreement covers Great Britain and Northern Ireland only. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
Should goods for Ireland ship through the UK?
Usually not. Routing through a British port adds a second customs border, so a feeder from a continental hub is simpler.
Is there duty on Indian bed linen in Ireland?
For now, normal EU duty applies, until the India-EU agreement enters into force. Check the current rate in TARIC before you price. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
