The market
How French brands buy bed linen
Wide covers are the volume size
French homes lean to 140 and 160 cm beds, so the wide 240 x 220 cm duvet cover sells in the largest numbers. Sample it first for a French range.
The square pillow is for sleeping
In France the 65 x 65 cm square is the everyday sleeping pillowcase, not the decorative front pillow it is in the UK and Australia.
The traversin
Many French beds also carry a long bolster, the traversin, which takes its own tubular case. It is a separate line in the set if your customers expect it.
Flat sheets still sell
French retail still sells a drap plat alongside the fitted sheet, which is why our French schedule includes flat sheets for the 140 and 160 cm beds.
Shipping
Getting goods to France
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| Atlantic and Channel | Le Havre | About 22 to 32 days |
| Mediterranean | Marseille-Fos | About 16 to 26 days |
Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva via the Suez Canal, before customs clearance. Marseille-Fos lands earliest; Red Sea disruption can add 7 days or more to every arrival.
EORI number
Importing into the EU needs an EU EORI number, registered in the member state where you first import, and a broker files the declaration against the EU tariff.
Triman and Info-tri
Household linen sold in France carries the Triman logo and Info-tri sorting instructions, and whoever first places it on the French market joins the textile take-back scheme run by Refashion.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
The India-EU free trade agreement was concluded in January 2026 but is not yet in force, so normal EU duty applies to bed linen and table linen imported into France today, under chapter 63 of the EU's Common Customs Tariff. Once the agreement is in force, Indian textiles are set to enter the EU without duty. Confirm the rate on your product's code in TARIC before you price a range.
Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: European Commission: EU-India trade, EU TARIC tariff database.
Labelling
What the label must carry
- Fibre composition in French, under the EU textile labelling regulation.
- The Triman logo and Info-tri sorting instructions, required on household linen in France.
- Care symbols, not legally required but expected by French retailers.
Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: Your Europe: textile labelling, Refashion: Info-tri for textiles.
Market rules
Rules worth knowing
What a buyer selling into France is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.
General Product Safety Regulation
Since 13 December 2024, a consumer product sold in the EU must carry the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic address, and a product made outside the EU needs an economic operator established in the EU who is responsible for it. Usually that is the importing brand, named on the label or packaging.
EUR-Lex: Regulation (EU) 2023/988Azo dyes under REACH
REACH restricts azo colourants that can release listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles in prolonged contact with skin, which includes bed linen and towels. We dye with AZO-free dyes.
ECHA: substances restricted under REACHTriman and textile EPR
Household linen sold in France carries the Triman logo and Info-tri sorting instructions, and its marketer joins the textile take-back scheme run by Refashion. France already runs the textile producer responsibility the rest of the EU must adopt by 2028.

Questions
Common questions from French brands
Is a 65 x 65 cm pillowcase a sleeping pillowcase in France?
Yes. In France it is the everyday case for the square sleeping pillow. In the UK and Australia the same size is a decorative front pillow, so state the market on the specification.
Do you make traversin cases?
Yes, made to the length of your bolster as a separate line in the set.
Does French bed linen need the Triman logo?
Yes. Household linen sold in France carries Triman and Info-tri sorting instructions. Send the artwork with your specification and it goes on the label or packaging in production.
Which French port is fastest from India?
Marseille-Fos on the Mediterranean, from about 16 days. Le Havre takes longer but suits northern France and Paris.
