The market

How Danish brands buy bed linen

Sold as a set of two pieces

Danish retail sells bed linen as a duvet cover with one matching pillowcase, so a single set is two pieces and a double is two sets or one 200 x 220 cm cover with two pillowcases.

The extra long cover

140 x 220 cm covers sell alongside the standard 140 x 200 cm for taller sleepers. Plan both lengths into a Danish run.

A squarer pillowcase

The Danish pillowcase is 60 x 63 cm, close to square and different from the Swedish 50 x 60 cm, so it is its own cut.

Two duvets on a double

As across Scandinavia, many Danish couples use two single duvets, so confirm whether a double order is one wide cover or a pair.

Shipping

Getting goods to Denmark

DestinationPortsTransit from Nhava Sheva
JutlandAarhusAbout 28 to 38 days
ZealandCopenhagenAbout 28 to 38 days

Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva, usually transhipped at Rotterdam or Hamburg onto a feeder service, before customs clearance.

EORI number

Importing into the EU needs an EU EORI number, registered in the member state where you first import, and a broker files the declaration against the EU tariff.

Feeder from the North Sea

Most boxes for Denmark tranship at Rotterdam or Hamburg, and some go on by road from Hamburg. Goods can clear at the hub or on arrival in Denmark.

Documents from us

Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.

Duty

Trade terms

The India-EU free trade agreement was concluded in January 2026 but is not yet in force, so normal EU duty applies to bed linen and table linen imported into Denmark today, under chapter 63 of the EU's Common Customs Tariff. Once the agreement is in force, Indian textiles are set to enter the EU without duty. Confirm the rate on your product's code in TARIC before you price a range.

Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: European Commission: EU-India trade, EU TARIC tariff database.

Labelling

What the label must carry

  • Fibre composition in Danish, under the EU textile labelling regulation.
  • Care symbols, not legally required but expected by Danish retailers.
  • Country of origin, not required by EU law but often requested by buyers.

Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: Your Europe: textile labelling.

Market rules

Rules worth knowing

What a buyer selling into Denmark is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.

General Product Safety Regulation

Since 13 December 2024, a consumer product sold in the EU must carry the manufacturer's name and postal and electronic address, and a product made outside the EU needs an economic operator established in the EU who is responsible for it. Usually that is the importing brand, named on the label or packaging.

EUR-Lex: Regulation (EU) 2023/988

Azo dyes under REACH

REACH restricts azo colourants that can release listed aromatic amines above 30 mg/kg in textiles in prolonged contact with skin, which includes bed linen and towels. We dye with AZO-free dyes.

ECHA: substances restricted under REACH

Textile producer responsibility from 2028

The revised Waste Framework Directive requires every member state to run extended producer responsibility for textiles, household linen included, by April 2028. The brand placing goods on the market will register and pay towards collection and recycling.

Questions

Common questions from Danish brands

What is in a Danish bed linen set?

A duvet cover and one matching pillowcase, so a 140 x 200 cm set is two pieces. We pack sets that way, or to whatever your range sells.

140 x 200 or 140 x 220?

Both sell. 140 x 200 cm is the standard and 140 x 220 cm the extra long. Most Danish ranges carry both.

Why is the Danish pillowcase 60 x 63 cm?

It fits the Danish pillow, which is close to square. It differs from the Swedish 50 x 60 cm and the German 80 x 80 cm, so specify the exact size.

Is there duty on Indian bed linen in Denmark?

For now, normal EU duty applies, until the India-EU agreement enters into force. Check the current rate in TARIC before you price. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
