The market
How Canadian brands buy bed linen
North American sizes, two languages
Canadian ranges use US bed sizes, but every label and package is bilingual. A range built only for the US needs new label artwork before it ships north.
Duvet covers sell well
Canada buys more duvet covers than the US does, alongside comforters and sheet sets, so a Canadian range often carries both.
Two seasons in one range
Long winters and warm summers mean Canadian ranges often change with the seasons, from heavier cloths in winter to linen in summer. Plan two drops if you sell year round.
Shipping
Getting goods to Canada
| Destination | Ports | Transit from Nhava Sheva |
|---|---|---|
| Canada West | Vancouver, Prince Rupert | About 30 to 42 days |
| Canada East | Montreal, Halifax | About 28 to 38 days |
Planning ranges from Nhava Sheva, usually transhipped, before customs clearance. Western sailings cross the Pacific; eastern ones go via Suez and the North Atlantic.
CARM registration
Commercial importers register in the CBSA's CARM Client Portal and post their own financial security before goods arrive.
Customs entry
A broker files the entry against Canada's Customs Tariff, and GST or HST is charged on import.
Documents from us
Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, with export clearance and inland transport to the port handled at our end.
Duty
Trade terms
There is no trade agreement between India and Canada in force, and India does not qualify for Canada's General Preferential Tariff for developing countries, so Indian bed linen and table linen pay Canada's standard most-favoured-nation (MFN) rate, the rate for any country without a deal or preference. The two governments resumed talks on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and aim to conclude them in 2026. Confirm the rate on your product's tariff line before you price.
Verified on 6 October 2026 against the sources below. Duty and trade terms change, so confirm the current position before you price: CBSA: Customs Tariff 2026, chapter 63, CBSA: tariff treatment by country, Global Affairs Canada: India CEPA.
Labelling
What the label must carry
- Fibre content in both English and French, under the Textile Labelling Act.
- A dealer identity: the full name and address, or a registered CA identification number.
- Country of origin, marked Made in India.
Labels are built into production to the wording in your specification. Guidance: Competition Bureau: stuffed or filled articles.
Market rules
Rules worth knowing
What a buyer selling into Canada is expected to have in hand, beyond the label. Each links to its official source. Verified on 6 October 2026.
No provincial law labels
Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec repealed their stuffed article laws between 2019 and 2021, so unlike the US there are no provincial law labels. Filled products follow the federal guide for stuffed and filled textile articles.
Competition Bureau: filled articles guideBilingual labelling
Fibre content must appear in both official languages, which is the detail that catches a range prepared for the US alone.
CARM before the first shipment
Importers must be registered in CARM, with security posted, before the goods arrive, or the entry stalls at the border.

Questions
Common questions from Canadian brands
Are Canadian bed sizes the same as the US?
Yes. Canada buys to Twin, Full, Queen and King in inches, so our US schedule applies. The difference is the label, which must be in English and French.
Do Canadian quilts need a law label like the US?
No. The provinces repealed their stuffed article laws by 2021, so filled products need the federal textile label in both languages, not a provincial law label.
What is a CA number?
A registered identification number that can stand in for the dealer's name and address on a Canadian textile label. Send yours and it goes on the label.
Is there duty on Indian bed linen in Canada?
Yes. With no trade agreement and no developing-country preference for India, Indian bed linen pays Canada's standard MFN rate. India and Canada aim to conclude a trade agreement in 2026, so check the current position before you price. Duty position verified on 6 October 2026.
